Lots of updates on my drone war sim @ http://drone.pieter.com 🌲 Switched to sprite-based trees because 1000s of 3d trees is really heavy, now it's just a Nano Banana tree -> remove bg -> and then rotated 8 times to make a tree, it can even make a forest now without slowing down everything! 🚗 Added lots of moving vehicle enemies now, they shoot at you too and drive around the map 🛣️ Added roads 🏚️ You can use buildings now as cover, so you can fly in them and then shoot from there at enemies, buildings are rendered mostly in @cursor_ai then made into 3d with @tripoai (both sponsors of #vibejam) 📢 Drone and gun sounds are only hearable at your spawn point because that's where you are as a drone operator, when you fly further away the sounds go away and the radio signal noise gets worse

After our Series B, founders owned less than 30% of the company. Our investors took over and installed their own CEO to run it. We all liked this new CEO and honestly, for years it looked like a brilliant move. The company kept growing and growing. They launched B2B and built a $500M ARR business. Eventually, the company IPO’ed for $3B. Yet all along there were clear cracks under the surface. Over Udemy’s history, there have been 7 CEO’s. The board replaced the second CEO with dud after dud. I’d often try to meet with the board or the new CEO, and was completely ignored. Eren had influence as Chairman of the Board but Oktay and I were so ignored they didn’t even invite us to the IPO. LOL WTF. There are like 50+ people invited to these things and nobody thought: “oh maybe we should invite the people who fucking invented the thing we’re all celebrating.” It shows how little respect they had for founders and for product innovation as a discipline. I think they wanted a CEO they could control, a buttoned-up suit instead of a brash founder/CEO that is risk-taking, visionary, but a bit of a pain. For awhile, it looked like it didn’t even matter who was CEO - the company was run by the incredibly talented team that reported to them anyways. Well, it worked until it didn’t. The company made no major product innovations for 15 years. Instead, they took the original idea (video-based courses) and sold it in every place imaginable. It got us to $800M run-rate. That’s no joke; that takes serious execution and a great team that hustled hard to win the market. But eventually the consumer business stopped growing. The B2B business has now flattened out as well. Meanwhile, C...

✨ Progress on my drone sim 🚁 Drone of War: http://drone.pieter.com Removed my old giant city FBX, because 1) it wasn't made by AI, 2) it was way too big Made the scenery a sandy war land now and just generating my own 3d assets now with @cursor_ai and @tripoai (sponsors of #vibejam) Also removed the drone sound, I thought a drone operator probably doesn't hear the drone sound anyway (only if it's near them) and I was inspired by @denisbondare to add some sine wave sounds and it made some buddhist type dings that I really like The paradox of war + buddhist sounds is kinda interesting combo, there's something disturbing about drone warfare where it's just people remotely controlling it I wanted to capture that in a game Also added real soldiers models (also generated), they're static though, but they do move, but I need to make them move somehow, not sure how yet, soldiers shoot at you and try take you down Also need to add tanks and other military vehicles that drive around And then I need to add more of a gameplay element, I still think about multiplayer where you choose to be either a drone or a soldier/tank/etc so it's drone vs everyone else! P.S. I can't participate in the #vibejam as the organizer of course but I still like to make some fun games just for fun and to show the tools!

No you misunderstand AI just makes it possible to do the things millions of niche businesses did before, millions of businesses doing some revenue together is a lot of revenue Small and medium businesses are about 40-50% of the economy! Today I asked my Claude Code on http://pieter.com to write a message to my Claude Code on http://pieter.net, two different servers I do this a lot and then copy paste it to the other SSH window in Termius But then I wondered why can't Claude Code sessions in same account message each other and talk? That'd be super useful to me Many times I build a feature in one site and then want to send it to the other site to build the same!

✨ I can now generate 3d assets for my drone sim at http://drone.pieter.com directly from Cursor (sponsor of #vibejam) I need buildings that you'd see in a war torn city, like warehouses in ruins, broken down abandoned houses, bombed out bridges etc. Nano Banana Pro or 2 can generate them really well and then you can put them in an image-to-3d model and you get a GLB or FBX That one you can then import into your @ThreeJS game, the models might be big though, in my case like 16MB, so I ask it to compress it and make it more low poly so it loads fast ThreeJS then loads the individual GLBs on page load and puts them in my drone sim somewhere randomly, I think I should remove some of the grass and match the sandy color of the ruins though to make it fit in more

Yes, I feel everyone generating their own OS'es now is fun but also says something maybe about our future interfaces Firstly that we can personalize our own daily OS and interfaces we use by just generating them according to our own personal work flow, like super personalized interfaces, think like a Gmail specifically built for you or a Stripe dashboard that really fits just YOUR business specifically And secondly there is an ephemeral part of it where the speed at which we can build these things (1 hour and then iterating for few days) makes them also more ephemeral and easy to throw out and replace with the next thing we build that's better, so worth less in a way, and more transient, but that's good I think And thirdly that future AI apps like ChatGPT etc will just spin up ephemeral interfaces for us to help us reach whatever is our objective, instead of us using loads of apps and websites And like if you continue from that in a way the web and maybe apps will be completely dead in a few years, because we will be living in some ecosystem of AI generated personalized ephemeral interfaces that only exist transiently I think

✨ I managed to improve 🚗 Voxel Derby a lot and it's deployed now: http://voxelderby.pieter.com It now has a new 🏡 village map, multiple cars you can select (ppl requested monster truck on here so I added) and the cars fall apart better when you hit other cars or objects They slowly disintegrate until there's enough damage and they start smoking and then you're rekt! Now I'm going to try add multiplayer ASAP so people can drive into each other here Also it'd be fun to get less flat maps, I don't know how to do that because everything is voxel, so if it's less flat you get this blocky gradient curve which isn't optimal About a few hours of time invested to make this now, so pretty good score!

🚗 Tried to make my first voxel-based game ever with @boltdotnew It's my first time really using Bolt, you get your regular prompt window on the left side, but any updates to your project are immediately visible on the right side as a browser I think it's much easier for non-tech people because you don't need to switch to your browser to test, and because you skip the whole deployment step, you just click Publish or say publish and it's up as a site My game here is inspired by Teardown, that game that's built up by voxel blocks where you can destroy everything, it's somehow so satisfying to destroy every wall and object But I wanted to do it as a race game, but then I thought why not make it like demolition derby where the goal is to crash into each other? And parts of your car fly off etc. So 🚗 Voxel Derby was born It took a bit to get everything right and you still have to direct it to get what you want, like the engine sound was quite basic and then I told it "okay add gears" and then suddenly it sounded realistic, that kind of stuff But it actually built a performant voxel-based game pretty easily, I'm impressed Tomorrow I'll try add multiplayer just with Bolt, no idea if it can do, it'd have to spin up some server for that but we'll see if it works 😊

Okay so this got way out of hand as per usual 😊 So I accidentally built an entire DOS text-based user interface (TUI) running on the web called PieterOS: 💾 http://os.pieter.com It has a collective file system so anyone that opens it can save and edit and the drive is constantly synced, it has Notepad, Paint, a DOS Terminal emulator, File Commander (ala Norton) And PieterGPT where you can talk to AI I also made Program Generator 9000, and the idea is you write a prompt and it on-the-fly generates a new program inside PieterOS, but it doesn't work well yet Oh and it has Hacker News, of course 😂 I always wanted to build a TUI like this but never could before AI, but now I can 😍 Please be kind and remember everyone can see each other's files!

Anyone got any idea how to enable /fast mode on Claude Code It won't do anything, sometimes it finally shows me a login thing after /enable-usage but then I login and I copy the code and I am back here with no fast mode! It did work on my laptop but not on server :/

Here's the prompt/skill I made: ---- Build an auto-dispute-response system for Stripe that: 1. Shared evidence collection (app/dispute_evidence.php) Create a shared file with functions used by both the webhook and sync worker. This avoids duplicating evidence logic. Key functions: - getDisputeUserPlan($user, $stripe) — pulls the user's subscription plan from Stripe API (source of truth, since local DB plan field gets cleared on cancellation). Falls back to local DB fields if Stripe call fails. Maps product IDs to plan names and includes price/interval and canceled status. - collectDisputeEvidence($stripe, $user, $email, $charge, $photosDb) — collects all text and file evidence, returns an array ready to submit to Stripe. - generateServiceDocPdf($stripe, $user, $email, $photos_done, $recent_photos, $total_amount_paid) — generates a PDF with customer info, usage summary, recent activity table, and up to 6 actual product images (resized to JPEG at 500px wide / quality 75 to stay under Stripe's 5MB file upload limit). Added heat vision to my drone, then my friend @csonotes and me thought: What if we make it like Where's Waldo and it's drones vs people? And then in multiplayer? So you choose which side, drone or people, and as a person you have to run around and find a spot to hide and you can shoot drones out of the air too Very scary probably esp with the drone sounds Only thing is I don't know how to get people to walk up these buildings, I don't think they have stairs

🕹️ As the #vibejam organizer, I sadly can't participate But I still really really really wanted to make an FPV drone sim 😊 So I started to make it today, it has the real movement like a real drone, swerving left and right fast (with your mouse) and steering with keys WASD and Space to go up and Shift to go down, it's just a draft but you can try it here: 🚁 http://drone.pieter.com I love that typical VHS-ey analog video signal noise, so i tried to emulate it and of course it gets noisier the further you fly away and you lose radio signal I want to improve the look more to make it look really realistic this time, last year the plane game was fun but it didn't look realistic, this year we can try to go for more photorealistic as AI might finally be able to do it And of course I added an onboard gun and grenades you can throw off the drone Next I wanna add like more stuff to fly through like buildings and maybe some moving tanks and real enemies to shoot too A challenge is to get it to look realistic with just AI generated trees and scenery etc. I will follow the 90% AI rule and try to generate assets instead of importing them Anyway first impression is that there's been a lot of progress in AI models, they're much smarter than when we did the Vibe Jam a year ago, they still make mistakes but much less and it's easier to get your point across what you want them to build, very cool!
